We currently have a one year fixed term, full time opportunity for a Data Engineer to join our Data Analytics & Insights Department. This role will be based in our new, state-of-the-art Collingwood Head Office and will report to the Manager Data Engineering.

The Data Engineer will play a pivotal role in uplifting data and analytics across the organisation. This will be achieved through collaborating closely with the Bank’s various business units and functions to understand, capture, detail and articulate requirements for the Bank’s data initiatives.

What you will be doing

  • Support the development and maintenance of the organisation’s data platform, data warehouse and batch, and streaming data pipelines, which are used in the creation and delivery of data analytics products and services
  • Collaborate with managers within the organisation to establish, improve and implement processes, tools and frameworks for successful delivery and management
  • Support the design and deployment of the organisation’s data engineering operating model and Data DevOps
  • Champion and advocate data engineering considerations within enterprise-wide data architecture design and build forums
  • Provide experienced thought leadership in modern data engineering practices
  • Keen communicator and a natural collaborator that influences through actions, uniting the team through journey participation
  • Work with the Data Governance function to ensure compliance
  • Raise the organisational capability to successfully leverage data as an asset, to maximise the impact of analytics products and services
  • Provide technical support to other Data Engineers across the team
  • Challenge norms and influence people with the support of data driven insights
  • Support the preparation of business cases, discussion papers, procedures, templates and Steering Committee packs.

What you will bring

  • Solid demonstrable experience in data engineering within a complex organisation
  • Comprehensive capabilities to guide, mentor and teach other technical resources on engineering best practice
  • Extensive experience using data tools such as Microsoft SSMS, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory or other ingestion tools
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Management or similar is desirable
  • Strong capabilities in integrating diverse data sets into cohesive and functional analytics platforms, ensuring data quality and accessibility for stakeholders
  • A collaborative working style that is steadfast and approachable
  • Demonstrable exposure to project or transformation activities including gathering and developing comprehensive business requirements and developing implementation strategies. (e.g. as Business Analyst, Data Engineer or Data Analyst)
  • Previous experience in the retail banking industry
  • Additional skills and experience with ETL, Python and R Script, or other programing languages
  • Demonstrable experience in business analysis, operational risk and control, compliance testing and assurance, workflow audit, or any process and procedure designs
  • Ability to communicate strategic and technical concepts with clarity to stakeholders across all levels of technical competence
  • Ability to work autonomously across multiple initiatives
