We currently have a two year, fixed term full-time opportunity for a BI Data Engineer to join our professional and highly engaged Data Analytics & Insights department within our growing Transformation division. This role will be based our Collingwood Head Office and will report to the Manager Data Engineering.

The BI Data Engineer will be responsible for expanding and optimising our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimising data flow and collection for cross functional teams. This role will deliver the bank’s data program of works through application of SQL database interrogation extracts and data transformation to a Microsoft BI stack for presentation and visualisations to an on premise Power BI System.

What you will be doing

  • Delivery of core data source extracts (MS SQL SSIS/SSAS) for data visualisations (Power BI) and/or other system use according to business requirements
  • Collaborate with Technical Lead on infrastructure improvements that increase scalability and fault tolerance, while reducing data usage
  • Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability
  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using Microsoft stack (MS SQL SSIS/SSAS) technologies
  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
  • Pro-actively work with business teams to capture, understand and refine business requirements regarding data and visualisations in line with a data program
  • Drive standardised data design for the Implementation of SSRS and Power BI reports utilising Power BI Report Server on premise version
  • Assist in the conversion and creation of business reports utilising various visualisation tools over new data architecture.

What you will bring

  • Previous experience in delivering various Data Sources using MS SQL SSIS, PowerShell & Python scripts according to business requirements
  • Previous experience in implementing internal process improvements such as automating manual processes, optimising data delivery
  • Strong experience with index optimisation, table partition automation and database security
  • An understanding of Temporal & In-Memory Tables, with exposure to Polybase
  • A deep understanding of Data Warehouse concepts
  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, Python/R language, and highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores
  • Previous experience in a project to migrate databases to either AWS or Azure
  • Experience within the banking/financial sector
  • Proficiency in DAX & M languages for Power BI and be able to deliver a wide variety of Report Visualisations
  • Experience in utilising Sybase Server databases
  • Experience in business analysis, capturing requirements for data and reporting solutions and working with stakeholders to refine requirements
  • Experience in Power BI in the Cloud / O365, Data Factory, Databricks and other Azure cloud base applications/tools
  • Experience with creating reports & sub-reports using Tabular & Multidimensional SSAS Cubes
  • Be able to benchmark report performance and monitor report reliability
  • Understand design lifecycle & be able to maintain Frontend Security in conjunction with Database Security
  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology
  • Appropriate certified courses relevant to Microsoft BI stack skills - desirable
