The Senior Relationship Manager - Business Banking leads the relationship strategy and management of the Bank’s business banking portfolio, focusing on building and maintaining strong, long‑term relationships with small to medium business customers. The role is responsible for driving portfolio growth, retention and performance by understanding customer needs and delivering tailored lending and banking solutions. It ensures effective management of new and existing business opportunities, including timely enquiry follow‑up, conversion of new and inactive customers into active relationships, and ongoing portfolio stability. The role also sets and monitors business banking targets and service standards, ensuring activity, conversion and performance are tracked, reported and aligned to the Bank’s strategic objectives.

This role can be based out of the Head Office in Melbourne (Collingwood) or Sydney (Mascot and is soon to be relocated to the CBD).

What you will be doing

  • Lead the relationship strategy for the business banking portfolio, building and maintaining strong, long‑term relationships with SME and commercial customers.
  • Drive portfolio growth by identifying and originating new lending, deposit and transaction banking opportunities across existing customers and target segments.
  • Oversee management of the customer portfolio, ensuring retention, activity levels and relationship quality are maintained and enhanced.
  • Set and monitor team targets and service level agreements, focusing on customer acquisition, retention, lending and deposit growth.
  • Lead, coach and develop the Business Banking Relationship Management team, managing performance and building capability.
  • Oversee portfolio reporting and insights, tracking performance metrics including conversion, growth, customer activity and portfolio changes.
  • Partner closely with Credit and Business Banking Support teams to deliver high‑quality lending proposals and seamless customer experiences.
  • Represent the Bank externally and ensure all activities align with regulatory requirements, policies and business banking strategy.

What you will bring

  • Strong commercial acumen with a proven ability to build and maintain effective networks and customer relationships.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience managing teams, driving performance and operating effectively across functions.
  • Well-developed lending expertise, including credit analysis and structuring of commercial lending solutions.
  • Sound judgement and decision‑making skills, with the ability to assess opportunities and risks and make quality recommendations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, able to prioritise, work under pressure and manage competing demands.
  • Customer‑focused mindset, with a track record of delivering exceptional service and follow‑through.
  • Strong experience in business/commercial banking and relationship management, with relevant qualifications and alignment to Bank Australia’s values highly regarded.
